Key Concepts: responsibility, reflection, causation

Related Concepts: Interdependence, appreciation,
transformation.

Caring for the natural environment develops our understanding of the needs of living things (causation)

Sensory explorations of the natural environment help us to make connections (reflection)

This week in UOI.
Family stories (connection)

We were finding out all about 'JAPAN'

We had Ms. Yuko (Kojyu's mom) as a guest speaker.

She shared great information about Japan and showed learners how to create origami.

It was so much fun

Thank you so much for contributing great knowledge to us about Japan.

We discussed Japan

We discussed the global issues about Japan- Volcanoes and earth quack.

We also looked into famous destinations in Japan

We played rock paper scissors in the Japanese language and it goes like this:

  • Rock: Guu (ぐう)

  • Scissors: Choki (ちょき)

  • Paper: Paa (ぱあ)

The relationship of each hand is straightforward: paper beats rock, rock smashes scissors, scissors cut paper. There are a few variations on the chant you use with the game. Here is the most common version.
  1. Start by chanting “Saisho wa guu” (さいしょはぐう), which means rock is first. Pump your fists three times to the chant.

  2. Quickly follow with “Janken pon!” (じゃんけんぽん!). On “pon”, show your hand (guu, choki, paa).

  3. If there’s a draw, chant “Aiko desho!” (あいこでしょ!). On “sho”, show your next hand.

Remember that there are always three beats and you show your hand on the third beat. If you can’t remember the words for the chant, just think in your head “1…2…go!”

In Maths

We have been looking at number 9 and different ways of counting it.

In literacy

We read all about families and some Japanese stories.

In Phonics

We read 'The cat in the hat'

We looked and listened to all the nonsense rhymes.

We also played a matching a rhyme game.
