Important Notes
This year Thai is being taught by the Teaching Assistants in Preschool and K1 in order to better integrate Thai into our play-based learning at these levels. We would like to integrate Thai into all aspects of the children’s learning rather than it being only taught through a stand-alone lesson. However, there will be some scheduled activities around Thai culture and literacy. For example, this week in Thai the children have been learning about Wai Kru ahead of our event next week and participating in Wai Kru activities.
Hunting for numbers!
Dear Parents,
We are inquiring about numbers every day. We are learning to recognise numbers 1-5 and 1-10. We are also learning to count, but we want to do something different and make it more exciting for our learners.
Number hunts are a fun and engaging activity for your child. Ask your child to find numbers around you. Look at and say the numbers on car number plates, signs, calendars, newspaper, supermarkets, speed signs, and houses and then take a picture of your child with a number and send me through
email: phibzia@udoninternationalschool.com
Note: You will find some number cards to match.
Thank you for taking a great part in our learning
This week in UOI we focused on how relationships affect my self-awareness within the key concept 'FORM'
What is it like?
We sorted all our family pictures and added them to our memory box. We are still deciding how to display them next week. Stay tuned for that!
It was such a great provocation for the children to showcase their families, they were very proud!
We had a whole class discussion:
- Sharing about our family members
- Counted people in our families.
- We drew our family on the memory box.
In Math and Literacy...
We used different strategies and learning engagements to find and match numbers 1-10. It is great to see that all my children are now taking a lot of interest in our math area.
We read ' Jack and the Beanstalk' several times and watched a different version of the story. We made our own small world area to retell the story. We also made a mini-story map to retell the story by using visual characters

We are now using different ways to practise our names and this week we used cotton buds to paint write our names. So much fun!
Here are some activities and tips to engage your child with
counting:
» Listen for the counting sequence in these songs and rhymes,
which can all be found on https://www.youtube.com/ • Five Little Ducks
• Ten in the Bed
• 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive
• Ten Green Bottles
• Five Little Monkeys
• 1, 2, Buckle My Shoe
Counting everyday
You can incorporate counting into everyday activities such as:
» Cut fruit into six pieces and ask your child to count the pieces.
» Count the pieces of toast you cooked at breakfast.
» Add the total number of cutlery items at the table.
» Count the number of people traveling in the car or on the bus.
» Count the number of houses as you walk along the street.
» Count how many steps it takes to walk from the kitchen to the
bathroom.
» Practise counting when grocery shopping with your child (for
example, counting the number of apples you put into the bag).
» Encourage your child to talk about the number of things in the
pictures they draw.
