Finding Out
Transdisciplinary Theme - How We Organise Ourselves
Central Idea - People play different roles in the communities to which they belong
Lines Of Inquiry - Various communities we belong to (form)
- Roles of people who are part of our communities. (function)
-How communities are organised (responsibility)
This week we have been finding out about the people in our school community.
Some of us walked around school to take photos and ask the adults questions about the jobs that they do.
We also made a space station, a fire station, a hospital, and a police station. We have been inquiring about what these people do to help our community. Students have been very enthusiastic and risk-takers for sharing their thinking on what they want to be when they grow up.
In Literacy
We have been practicing our simple CVC oral blending and segmenting skills.
In Math
In K1 children are introduced to POSITIONAL LANGUAGE. We have been practicing how to use on, under, at in our daily conversation in the classroom. As it enhances their ability to follow and give directions and to use language precisely.
children will continue to develop their skills in counting and ordering numbers to 20 and beyond. We will be looking at ways to find one more and one less than a number as well as looking at adding, subtracting. We will continue to use positional language and introduce everyday language that is linked to our UOI

Swimming will start next week
Please don't forget your child's swimming costume and towel for our swimming lesson on Wednesday.
Just an addition to our swimming class. Please let your child wear a swimming costume under their uniform on Wednesday. As we would go straight to swimming after the flag.

Home Connection
When taking a walk around your community or when riding in your car, point out the important buildings where community workers work. For example, the hospital or clinic, the fire station, the police station, the dump or recycling center, and the post office. Record important phone numbers for the community helpers in your area such as doctor, fire station & police. Go over the list with your child and talk with him/her bout when you might call each helper.
Please take pictures and send them to my email phibzia@udoninternationalschool.com
It will be a great opprotunity for the children to talk about our community.
Thank you so much.
